We are involved in the following activities:

 1. Research and publication of folklore

We are conscious of the fact that folklore grow, develops and evolves but are also aware that societies identify with and listen to idioms that they understand fully well. Research activities give us the opportunity to help society understand itself through the ages and focus actions. Research works lead to participation in conferences and seminars both nationally and internationally

2. Folklore festivals

Festivals have continued to be our major activity and member groups get opportunity to share their performances as well as improve by learning from one another. Villages are lit with culture during rehearsals, creativity and entertainment, the prevalence of sickness reduces and patriotism is manifested. Groups remain united, strong and appreciate their ethnic differences.

3. Training Workshops for Folklore groups

Member groups manly comprise illiterate subsistence folks that need continuous education and training in various aspects of modern cultural industries practices in order to change the talents into economically beneficial resources and viable vehicles for social transformation. The management of groups and individuals, performance dynamics, intellectual property, artistic works in modern context, marketing plus other subjects form the basis for trainings and workshops

4. Recording, documentation & Archiving

NACOFU has a wide and sizeable collection of folklore materials especially of music, dance, dramatic actions and poetry works ready for cataloguing and placement in a collection center. Some institutions and individuals that wish to share this interest with us are welcome. To sustain this activity and return some money to the performers, selected works are available with the archiving agency on order

5. Preservation of folklore

Folklore expresses the philosophies of the departed generations, their values and identifies a people. Goes without saying that people who do not know where they are coming from cannot tell whether they have moved at all and how far. They will not know which way to go and any way will lead them there. Values affect the social fiber and development. Folklore tells the past, informs the future thus it is relevant for reference then it is well appreciated. It is the identity of a people, so it is the people. To preserve folklore is to assure the survival of a people.

6. National and International Networking

The interdependent nature of mans cultural life requires continuous learning from with in and without in order to manage modern cultural institutions. Through networking members and groups appreciate their similarities and differences and then work together for the betterment of humanity.

8. Mobilization / Sensitization of rural communities

Folklore especially music, dance and dramatic actions are used to mobilize, sensitize and cause behavioral change among communities because a big percentage of the adult population is illiterate and have limited access to modern media. This entertaining media reaches many and they own the information because it is transmitted in vernacular.

9. Projects in line with our Mission

NACOFU carries out different projects that aim at improving the appropriation of folklore and lives of the people. Projects are financed with donations, contributions and incomes from sale of works. We engage in partnerships to the extent that there are shared values and objectives.
